Nigeria (Madison)
The two pyramids are fairly similar and therefore, show a lack of change and advancement. The difference between the birth rates and death rates is concerning because it shows a direct correlation to improper healthcare and no access to family planning. Without change, this trend will continue and Nigeria’s economy will have a hard time stabilizing.
Mauritius (MADISON)
Based on these population pyramids, there is a slight difference between the demographics from 2000 and 2017. By 2017, there was an increase in the number of working age citizens. This is most likely due to an increase in birth rates from years before. There is no relevant difference in the number of elderly people from each year. In all, these two population pyramids are fairly healthy; showing that the country of Mauritius is stable economically and the people have access to plentiful amount of resources.
Ghana (MADISON)
These pyramids are fairly similar to those of Nigeria’s. In 2017, the number of birth’s sky-rocketed, showing one of two things. One, the country has little access to family planning, causing more and more women to conceive and more children to be born. Or, additionally, this could mean that the country’s economy is stabilizing and people feel more comfortable with having children. The best option is of course the second one, because with an increasing economy, the country will be able to move on to the next stage and advance. Unfortunately, due to the known facts and demographics of Ghana, the country has poor family planning facilities and little control over the number of births.
South Africa (Mikaila)
In 2015, the South African population saw a boom because of the election of Nelson Mandela and the end to apartheid. The population still has a high life expectancy which means they have good healthcare and medicine and the people of the community are living long lives.
Democratic Republic of the Congo(Mikaila)
Both pyramids are very similar to each other with only a slight increase of child births in the 2015 pyramid. This shows a lack of advancement and very slow change within the country. The number of children has increased which means that infant mortality is low even though overall life expectancy has remained the same. The increase of children could also mean that more people have the means or the needs to have more children and healthcare is good enough that the babies are surviving infancy.
Ethiopia(Mikaila)
These population pyramids are also very similar to each other. They show a fairly high life expectancy and very high birth rates. This shows that they have good healthcare that allows the population to be healthy and live long lives. Since 2005, Ethiopia's population has been increasing. This could mean the economy is stabilizing and more people are able to have children and provide for their larger families. Their overall life expectancy is pretty high.
